A vacancy has arisen within Dabane Water Workshops. Dabane Water Workshops is seeking
qualified applicants with (>5 years) significant NGO experience (preferably in USAID-funded
programs) to serve as Water and Natural Resource Management Technical Coordinator. S/he
should possess an advanced degree in the field of Water and Natural Resources Management. The
Water and Natural Resources Technical Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and
implementation of all environmental and water related activities under the supervision of the
Watershed Management Lead. The position is based in Lupane District.

Position Title: Water and Natural Resources Management Technical Coordinator
Location: Based in Lupane District covering Lupane, Tsholotsho and Nkayi Districts
Contract Type: Fixed Term Performance Related Contract
Duration of the contract: 1 year contract, renewable annually based on performance

Reporting to: The Watershed Management Lead


Position Summary
The Water and Natural Resource Management Technical Coordinator is responsible for the
coordination and implementation of all environmental and water related activities in river micro-catchments. The Water and Natural Resource Management Technical Coordinator will conduct
studies, assessments and identification of suitable and appropriate IWRM interventions within
clusters and micro-catchments. The incumbent will work closely with the Water Engineers,
Community Visioning Coordinator, the Agricultural Production Coordinator, the Social Behavior
Change Coordinator as well as directly with the Technical Field Officers to ensure the
implementation of IWRM and Natural resources-based interventions within watersheds. These
interventions are meant to build community resilience and improve people’s livelihoods within the
targeted communities. The incumbent will work closely with Government stakeholders and the
Catchment and Sub-catchment Councils to ensure the sustainable implementation of NRM, land,
water and soil management systems.

Responsible For: NRM & GIS Officers, Water Team, NRM Technical Field Officers

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Co-develop and ensure the timely implementation of watershed management cluster plans,
    resource inventories, land use information and initiatives to achieve restoration and
    protection of the watershed
  2. Undertake studies and assessments to determine root causes and extent of degradation
  3. Develop watershed indicators together with the community and staff and develop a
    participatory monitoring and evaluation system to measure these initiatives
  4. Produce designs and Bills of Quantities for watershed environmental related infrastructure.
  5. Design manuals and guidelines for NRM and conduct appropriate environmental
    management training activities for district and sub-catchment stakeholders.
  6. Monitoring of environmental works and reporting to the Watershed Management Lead
  7. Produce monthly, quarterly and yearly progress reports and any other reports as required
  8. Mainstream issues of gender, child protection, disability and safeguarding in all Watershed
    Management activities

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum qualification of a master’s degree in environmental and Natural Resource
    Management, or Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM), Disaster Management
    or a relevant area of study.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in the field of environmental/natural resource
    management or IWRM
  • Advanced computer literacy in MS Office packages, remote sensing, GIS and SQL
    related software
  • A clean class 4 driver’s license
  • Good communication and facilitation skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good team player across sections and organizations
  • Has worked in USAID funded projects
